Greek Debt Crisis 4 The World: Political Cartoons 8 May 2010

Photo by I'm Fantastic @ flickr

From Denny: Greece is not the only European country with financial troubles, required to cut back on its spending ways and lavish lifestyle. Other countries may be following on their heels: Portugal, Spain, Ireland and Italy. Hopefully not but maybe so. Right now the Greek government agreed to Germany's austerity conditions in exchange for a bailout of epic proportions even for this Drama King culture.

The Greeks are not happy about cutbacks. Apparently, this generation does not seem to understand the concept of sacrifice as previous generations did. There is no time like the present to find out what it means. Even an ancient culture such as this one is only as good as its current generation chooses to be good or foolish stewards of what previous generations gifted them.

I'm sure when the American and European economies began to falter, experiencing our own cutbacks of services, lavish lifestyles and massive job loss, out the window went the tourism industry the Greeks once enjoyed to fuel their economy. Looks like we all have to "stay-cation" now in our own countries and literally our own back yards until things improve. We all need to get serious about broadening our economies to not depend upon only one industry for income.

And along the same thinking of the comedy movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"

Videos: Hidden Bank Practices Regarding Deceptive Fees

From Denny: This will get your blood boiling fast for sure! Educate yourself how to handle your banking relationship as American and European banks work overtime to make the consumer pay for the bank's bad investment choices.

Note: Royal Bank of Scotland took bailout money from two countries - America and the United Kingdom and then had the nerve to tell everyone they were refusing to loan any money to the same taxpayers, preferring to apply the bailout money to its profit line.

There are several videos on this subject to give you an overview of how the banking trend has been developing for some time and appears to not to be going away any time in this generation unless the public gets serious about pushback.

Why are banks raising their fees? This was reported 17 July 2009 and explains the banking position which Americans are so angry about getting caught in like a vice grip:

This was reported at the beginning of American ire against the banks right after the taxpayer bailouts infuriated everyone:

This video goes all the way back to 10 June 2005, discussing bank fees. Note that this is about 10 months after Hurricane Katrina hit, causing economic devastation that reveberated throughout the economy. Banks have been getting to the consumer for five years now!

Note: The reason I use NBC News and CNN videos the most is that they do a better job than CBS News by taking care of their links and keep the stories up longer. Apologies to anyone who finds sometimes these two older CBS videos might not work.

5 Videos: G20 Conference Highlights, World Sanctions Against Iran, Obamas Vision, Diplomatic Security Story, How Irans People Will Fare Under New Sanctions

From Denny: First up, the G20 took aim at American CEOs ridiculously high compensation bonuses. Isn't it something that it takes outside countries to lobby for the American people when our own representatives in Congress lobby against us? Some seriously screwed up priorities in politics these days. What the G20 did try to address are some better standards for the global economy to keep the chaos down to a minimum.

Of course, Europe isn't exactly the standard bearer to defend the American people. They are really defending their own wallets when their treasuries invest in America. Hey, a left-handed warrior is better than none. The American people will take all the defenders from all quarters at this point: "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" works nicely here.

Here's the beginning coverage of the G20 conference where President Obama set out a sweeping new vision for America's foreign policy.

This is a bit of a grinner as the delegates gathered:

This is an exclusive report from CBS News about the United Nations security, where most of the delegates met prior to the G20 conference. Talk about a nightmare! I still remember being in Rome, Italy when the Pope died and observed how the Italians shut down the entire city as diplomats, world leaders and well-wishers began to flood the city:

Here's a good report on what world sanctions could mean for Iran's people. They are already groaning under the weight of a bad economy where everything costs alarmingly more than it did in previous better times.
