Video: Making a Difference - American High School Kids From Chicago Helping Casablanca Poor

From Denny: This is a wonderful story about people helping other people clear across the world. Chicago's sister city is Casablanca in Morocco and has been for over 25 years. These are high school kids who want to work against poverty.

They visited Casablanca and met an astounding local man who is revered by many for his work among the poor. What is most impressive is how much support he has given to young women to get educated and succeed. Now that's not something you expect out of an Islamic culture. As it stands now, the most recent stats have just been released, regardless of religion, that 30% of women worldwide are abused. That's billions of people suffering. The figures are much higher in Islamic countries. To see a man devote so much of his life and resources to helping young women develop warms the heart.

Video: American Diplomatic Mistake Goes Viral

From Denny: Well, it was understandable but some aide deserves an a$$ chewing for not bothering to investigate the obvious about the preferences of the Spanish First Family's position on whether to allow public photos of their children. Answer: they do not. It was too late, the photos were posted up on the White House's flickr site where they make public many of their own family photos. They did obscure the faces of the daughters, then took down the photo. Good move, guys. Keep up the a$$ chewing for that aide. Oh, well, nothing like your worst mistakes going viral on the internet!

3 Videos: Free Health Clinics Serving Middle Class America Now, Republicans Party of No Answers

From Denny: This is a disturbing report. As foolish Republican strategists, conservative media and everyday citizen political hacks continue to fight the President on health care reform because their incomes are paid for by the insurance industry, middle class people with jobs have to resort to free health clinics for basic needs.

Free clinics were once the last resort of the poorest of the poor in America. Today, people call their local fire department and 911 calls for free help as much as overwhelming the emergency rooms of hospitals. Now the new trend is free clinics. Has America become a third world nation? We are a nation in distress and Big Business and the Repubican Party doesn't give a damn.

Americans are dropping their health insurance premiums in droves. No one can afford the $15,000 a year premiums just to own basic coverage. That doesn't even address catastrophic coverage if they were to experience a cancer diagnosis.

Nor does the health insurance industry any longer guarantee, even if rated up to higher premiums, that a person can get coverage because of pre-existing conditions, some as easy to treat as Type 2 Diabetes.

Doctors and nurses are already overworked across America from a stressed out medical system. Yet, here they are, a number of hardy loving souls, volunteering their "free" time to help offer health care to folks who can no longer afford health care premiums. Those $100,000 a year jobs are now only paying $30,000. With a 70% cut in pay across America (because of Big Business still continuing to outsource our jobs as no one has stopped the so-called "work visa" program), no one can any longer afford what they used to pay, yet the insurance industry keeps rocking along gouging the American consumer.

7 Videos: Former President Bill Clinton on Meet The Press

From Denny: This was a great interview. How refreshing to actually hear an intelligent conversation about world issues. Clinton did not upstage the current President either but rather offered agreement or suggestions of how to proceed forward on Iran. He also spoke about the Clinton Global Initiative group's efforts in the world on a variety of social issues.

Engaging Iran:

Clinton on troop surge in Afghanistan and why:

Clinton on the state of America's political discourse and the virulence of the right wing Republicans:

Clinton on health care reform:

Clinton on whether he desires to return to office:

5 Videos: G20 Conference Highlights, World Sanctions Against Iran, Obamas Vision, Diplomatic Security Story, How Irans People Will Fare Under New Sanctions

From Denny: First up, the G20 took aim at American CEOs ridiculously high compensation bonuses. Isn't it something that it takes outside countries to lobby for the American people when our own representatives in Congress lobby against us? Some seriously screwed up priorities in politics these days. What the G20 did try to address are some better standards for the global economy to keep the chaos down to a minimum.

Of course, Europe isn't exactly the standard bearer to defend the American people. They are really defending their own wallets when their treasuries invest in America. Hey, a left-handed warrior is better than none. The American people will take all the defenders from all quarters at this point: "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" works nicely here.

Watch CBS Videos Online

Here's the beginning coverage of the G20 conference where President Obama set out a sweeping new vision for America's foreign policy.

This is a bit of a grinner as the delegates gathered:

This is an exclusive report from CBS News about the United Nations security, where most of the delegates met prior to the G20 conference. Talk about a nightmare! I still remember being in Rome, Italy when the Pope died and observed how the Italians shut down the entire city as diplomats, world leaders and well-wishers began to flood the city:

Here's a good report on what world sanctions could mean for Iran's people. They are already groaning under the weight of a bad economy where everything costs alarmingly more than it did in previous better times.

4 Videos: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Interviewed About Iran Nukes

From Denny: Here's what I like about female Democrats in government positions, the ability to speak clearly in no uncertain terms about a situation. Most Republican women tend to play "follow the leader" on "rhetoric speak" continuing to add insult to injury which is why I never take them seriously. They continue to refuse to own an original thought that was not dictated by a Republican war room strategist. A notable exception, who is trying to be a real lawmaker in tough economic times for her state and the country, is Republican Senator Olympia Snow of Maine who can be respected for using her mind to bring her best to the table. Whether you agree with her or not at least she is acting like the people's representative.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sat down for an interview with CBS host Harry Smith to discuss America's view of the developing nuclear situation with Iran. Iran insists upon playing the world villain, never realizing they are only causing formerly disparate governments like China and Russia to unite with the West as allies. No one wants an insane leader to own nukes.

Here's Sunday's updated video from Face The Nation - 27 Sept 2009:

Here's what President Obama had to say on Friday about Iran. Frankly, I wouldn't give Iran 3 months to comply. In all fairness, the President did make this statement before Iran foolishly released missiles. I can only imagine what Israel is thinking. Whatever Israel chooses to do, no one in the international community will hinder them.

Some news analysis about how President Obama can benefit from this current crisis:

Video: Giving Abused Afghan Women Hope

From Denny: Fighting for women to be treated decently throughout the world is an ongoing issue. Until other women decide to band together to help each other will the culture change. You can't wait for the men to do it. Women in India have banded together and have found safety in large numbers as they protest wrongs in their culture.

It's a mean-spirited culture toward women like this in Afghanistan that really makes Americans question why we are fighting for their freedom. Afghanistan is a country where NGOs tell us the statistics are that 90% of the women here suffer abuse, rape or murder. It's time for America to leave Afghanistan; this war isn't worth fighting to protect this kind of perverse culture. Fortunately, for these ladies they found a shelter that gives them both safety for now and hope for their future.

2 Videos: Terrorist Zazi Close to Finishing That Bomb

From Denny: Friday - and this whole week - has been a busy one for news. Terrorism suspect, Najibullah Zazi, is accused of trying to create bombs from beauty supply chemicals, which, unfortunately, is too easy to do. The charges? Conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.

I've been waiting for this Zazi story to finish developing so we would know more than just the sensational headlines. I'm sure law enforcement needed some time to round up the other fools involved in this terrorism plot before they could begin to inform the public as to more details.

This is reported Friday 26 Sept 2009:

This was reported on Thursday 25 Sept 2009 as the suspect was flown from Denver, Colorado to New York City:

Video: Irans Speech Rejected by United Nations Delegates, No Thanks!

From Denny: Iran's President spoke to ghosts as most of the chairs were empty and the news footage clearly shows delegates leaving in droves as he began to speak. Clearly, no one is interested in what this puppet has to say about anything nor do they don't take him seriously. At best he comes across as irrational and weird.

It's sham governments that terrorize their own people - like Iran and Libya - that get on to high positions on the Security Council or Human Rights Council that makes a mockery of what the United Nations is supposed to represent. It's like the Bible says, "And they will call evil as if it were goodness, and goodness as if it were truly evil." Talk about screwed up priorities.

Let's hear it for the Gadafi weirdo rant at the United Nations. Clearly, it's time the United Nations begin to vett their speakers with a sanity test before they are allowed to address the assembly:

Video: Iran Protestors Outside United Nations

From Denny: Iranians came from all over America, Canada and elsewhere to protest the Iranian regime speech at the United Nations. These people are still fighting to get their country back to the right side of decency and sanity.

Video: Obama Ends Bush Project of Missile Shield, Good Riddance

From Denny: This was a news story that got sidelined until today. I meant to comment upon this smart move of Obama to scrap this idiot Bush project. Of course, the reason Obama gives us is only part of the truth.

The real truth is that America is fighting a two-front war in the Middle East, drug wars in Mexico, South America and America's inner cities and small towns all across America. We can't even afford real health care for our citizens.

We are going bankrupt on the Republican wars. Who has any money left for a new project for staging missiles in Eastern Europe? In the end, just how much of an arsenal does one country need? We have more than adequate resources to protect our country and plenty of new technology - and will power - to deal with fools like the Iranian regime should it become necessary.

3 Videos: Americas Floods, Atlanta Badly Flooded, Damage at $250 million

From Denny: Having lived in Atlanta, I knew full well this could happen one day. What this video does not say is that most of the suburban areas and high end shopping centers on the west side of Atlanta are built upon, you guessed it, a flood plain!

That's why a lot of those flooded buildings were not insured as they could not get insurance or the cost was prohibitive. At the time I lived there the flood plain of the Atlanta area had not flooded in 100 years. The builders and business people were confident it would never happen. Mother Nature had other plans.

This was 21 September when only 20 inches of rain had fallen:

This was filmed on 22 September:

This was when 50 inches of rain had fallen by 23 September:

Today, as I write this post it has been raining all day. The weather systems in this part of America starts the rain in Houston, comes east to southern Louisiana and then moves on east on to Atlanta, Georgia. We may be seeing some more videos of this terrible excessive flooding in Atlanta because it's been raining here all week.

Video: Australias East Coast Covered in Red Dust Storm, 1st in 70 Years

From Denny: This is tough news footage to watch. Australia engulfed in a huge red dust storm, adversely affecting the health of millions of people. Something is clearing changing rapidly on this planet and it looks like we will have to learn to adapt quickly.

2 Videos: NBC News Exclusive Interview with Britains Clueless Gordon Brown

From Denny: Watch Britain's Prime Minister Gordon Brown try feebly to do damage control after the idiot fiasco of letting go the Lockerbie bomber on "compassionate grounds." Blaming the Scottish authorities he authorized to release the criminal is lame at best.

It gets better. He's snubbed a public meeting with our President Obama on our own soil. Is this guy just a British version of former President George Bush: he just doesn't get it? He thinks a two hour visit is developing a real relationship with people? His lips are moving but he is just not a convincing actor.

I still would like to know what that "special relationship" is all about that he is claiming to have with America. He acts like the white guy with a black mistress from the 1930's American South who is afraid to go public for fear of getting lynched by his own neighbors. Is it the same with Gordon Brown about Obama?

If he is that cowardly, then he can quit with the backroom visits. His answers to serious issues and questions were like a weasel slinking around until he could find an exit. Interviewer Brian Williams was too nice to his stock answers. Where is a junkyard dog journalist when you need one?

3 Videos: Helping Vets Get Work and Jobless Stats

From Denny: Transitioning out of a war zone and back into civilian life is difficult at best. Many times the soldiers have lost their homes to foreclosure, their wives and children to divorce and their credit rating is in the dumps. That's all if they are not badly injured upon their return and are able to work. Inside even the toughest economy are small pockets of other people trying to do the right thing by our returning warriors and get them back to work to restart their lives. The new program is called Helmets to Hardhats and our warriors are learning how to and help rebuild America in more ways than one. Great video, very positive!

This Weeks Editorial Cartoons 19 September 2009

From Denny: Oops! China "got tariffed" on their tires by the USA to try and protect at least a few of our remaining manufacturers not driven out of business in America.

Then it's on to The Bad Behavior Club from bad sportsmanship to mean-spirited awards ceremony hissing to political screaming at a dignified event.

Video: Biographer Talks About Kennedys Memoir and the Man

Video: Iran Protestors Again in the Streets

From Denny: Well, Ahmadinejad was busy screaming against Israel to stir up the populace. So, the Iranian protestors against his stealing the election in June came out to protest him - again! This guy really knows how to keep the opposition in the news. He's their best public relations guy in reverse. :)

Videos: Ann Curry and Her Thoughts on the NBC Exclusive Iran Interview

Videos: Exclusive NBC Interview with Irans Leader

From Denny: This sure was an interesting interview and is an exclusive for NBC News from Ann Curry. To her credit, Ann Curry is one of those rare journalists with some class and finesse in how she interviews. She knows how to ask tough questions without being abrasive or practicing ambush journalism.

Of course, Ahmadinejad was his usual "not really answering the questions" self, so what else is new? What's new is his puppet masters have restaged him to reflect the Obama more dignified style of engagement as opposed to the "shoot from the hip" abrasive Bush style. Clearly, the Iranian regime believes they are going to get something they want out of Obama. Think again if you don't disarm with the nukes.

While China and Russia continue to help Iran on the nuclear level they should not be so sure those countries are truly their friends. They could as easily turn on them and do Israel's work for them by destroying the nuke facilities. Iran is playing a dangerous game of which everyone in the world feels threatened.

Right now Iran wants to trade three foolish American hikers in their prison for terrorists and spies in our prisons. I would not expect an equal trade.

Of course, right after this interview, what happens? Ahmadinejad goes off on his usual bizarre course, screaming that the Holocaust never happened. He creates imagined history to fit his fantasy game, all wrong in the face of fact. This guy really knows how to tick off decent people. His gamesmanship is childish at best. The North Korean temper tantrums have worn out the West who are no longer amenable to giving anything anymore. Same goes for the Middle East.

News and Dance Videos: Actor Patrick Swayze Passes Away

From Denny: Well, we all knew it was coming as pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly forms of cancer. It was a miracle he lived as long as he did after diagnosis. Most patients don't make it past three months; Swayze soldiered on for another two years which is quite amazing.

I always enjoyed his dancing and he was a great guy, loved by his fellow actors as much as by the public. Here are some of the headlines about him:

Cheeky Quote Day at The Social Poets! 16 September 2009

From Denny: Here's an idea of what Cheeky Quote Day is like over at The Social Poets, enjoy!

***

Since so much is up in the air with the economy worldwide, and my audience is an international one (BTW, thank you everyone for your great support!), I thought I’d put up some quotes about retirement. After all, we all are dreaming about that “one day” of what we would like to do without anyone telling us it can’t be done!

While I was driving all day Monday out of town on sales calls I saw a lot of travel trailers and motor homes towing SUVs. I sure wondered where they were going and what they were going to do when they got there. I’ve been seeing those happy people motoring down the road for several months now and it sure got my curiosity up and turned my mind to the subject of retirement.

The first comedian from the past that came to mind concerning retirement was George Burns. He was quite the character and well loved in America. As he aged he made a new career out of standing on stage with an unlit cigar, a sly grin, and cracked jokes in his understated manner until his late nineties. He was in show business all his life beginning in Vaudeville.

George Burns isn’t the only comedian to craft a whole routine around the subject of retirement. The following are all kinds of perspectives about what it is like to retire from your job – or what you thought it might be like to retire! :) Get a grin and think good thoughts for your future.

Video: Pushing Back Against Big Business Banks Outrageous Practices

From Denny: I've been wondering how long it was going to take someone to start a Pushback Revolution against Big Business Banks. Let's not forget that Britain's Royal Bank of Scotland took money from TWO governments and has joined in with the USA banks to jack up good credit customers' rates. The new strategy after Congress passed anemic credit card legislation this past year is to fee everyone to death while taking government bailout monies to pad their profit bottom line.

This lady is frustrated with Bank of America. Too many of America's banks got in mindset lockstep to gouge the American consumer. They think they will actually retain these customers and have plenty of business for the future! I doubt it. Why? Because just recently the Obama economic guys came out to say they expected American debt to go down by about $4 billion. Guess what, it went down by about $20 billion. What a shock.

It's obvious America is getting off credit cards as fast as they can pay off debt. You won't see a return to business as usual for probably generations, as long as someone is alive to remember how the middle class is getting royally screwed in the wallet by big business and banks.

Video: Kennedys New Memoir Offers Surprise Stories to Sons

From Denny: Senator Ted Kennedy's new memoir book is out: True Compass. I am surprised to learn this is the only memoir actually written by a Kennedy! The Senator worked hard to finish this book in his last days and did not want it released until after his death.

4 Videos: News on 9/11 Anniversary

From Denny: On the 9/11 anniversary there was reported there were shots fired near the President as he was attending a memorial ceremony at the Pentagon. Actually, it was a Coast Guard training exercise.

Apparently, it was wrongly reported first by CNN and nothing like that happened. Or so they say. One never knows as the White House may be trying to downplay this story.

The death threats against this President have gone up 400% since the Bush years. Something is definitely "rotten in Denmark" as Shakespeare liked to say... When a President is threatened this often and this viscerally by the Republican Party there is a moral rottenness in that political party among its followers and promoters.

You don't around on radio talk shows and in print and television advocating their loyalist followers that "Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, should be poisoned" such as radio talk show host Glenn Beck did recently. People who are already given to fantasy thinking and violent action are easily tipped over the edge to do wrong when strongly suggested by those they consider an authority figure like a celebrity.

Nerves are still raw eight years later after the bombing on 9/11. People throughout the country are still angry and want revenge.

This is President Obama's first year observing the 9/11 anniversary. He vows to still pursue those who are responsible. Let's hope when they are caught, tried and imprisoned that someone like the British won't let them out of prison in exchange for an oil deal like they did to the victims' families of the Lockerbie bombing.

Video: What the Peace Corp is Doing in Mongolia

From Denny: The Peace Corp is an organization you don't hear about often in the news. Check out what they are doing in Mongolia!

They are working with the locals to improve their English language skills since it is the language of business, technology, commerce, medicine and the need is constantly increasing.

What's interesting is that their country neighbors by physical boundaries are China and Russia. Yet they consider America their third neighbor! We are their gateway to the West.

Here's a bit about culture in Mongolia. They sure love horse races in this part of the world!

Video: Irans Controversial New Cabinet in Place

From Denny: Well, it looks like Iran is doing the usual "put the crooks in charge" dance. And I thought the Bush administration was bad. At least (at the time) none of them were on wanted posters from various crime stopper organizations like Interpol. Iran has chosen quite the corrupt criminal assortment and have raised them to the level of leaders in this oppressed country. But then, did we really expect anything less from this crazed government?

Oh, and let's not overlook the pandering to the female population by placing a female puppet in the post of health minister. Trust me; making her the first woman ever elevated in government since the 1979 Islamic Revolution isn't enough to assuage the anger throughout the country. We all know she will not be allowed to speak her mind or institute her own policies. So, it's just for show.
