Why Not to Nuke the Oil Spill, Israels International Mess - News Headlines 2 June 2010

*** Read why not to nuke the Gulf oil spill and the many sides of the Israeli raid issue.

*** ALSO: BP Oil Spill News Updates - 2 June 2010

From Denny: This Israeli raid on the Gaza relief supplies boat ramming the Israeli blockade is an international mess like the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

First of all, ramming a blockade isn't exactly the smartest move as they had to know it would bring a militaristic response. That's the usual way things happen in those situations.

According to Israel's defenders, even here in America, there are several things to consider. One is that Israel has the right to defend itself against the importation of weapons and bombs. Fair enough.

Another defense is claimed that the Palestinians actually killed their own people, claiming it was the Israelis. Looking at the massive amounts of video footage issued from both sides this claim looks murky at best; it's inconclusive.

What is evident is that Israel used excessive force even if it was a move to smuggle weapons and bombs into Israel. Forget rubber bullets. Why not use tasers? You can subdue aid workers and terrorists alike, especially in such close quarters as a boat. There would be no loss of life and an international incident avoided.

It really does make you wonder where Israel's head really is these days with the extremists running the show. They are ultra conservative, don't give a damn about respecting anyone else besides their yes crowd and they are not wise in their international dealings. In short, these conservatives will end up blowing up the Middle East at the rate they are going. Repairing international relations with countries like Turkey could take decades.

Check out this strange commentary about the Israeli raid: The Gaza Flotilla Is Not What It Seemed

As to the much talked about nuke option to seal off the ocean floor well in the Gulf, the Pentagon claims there is no serious consideration of the idea at this time. There also is no proof it would actually work and accomplish sealing off the well by imploding it. We all recognize it is a huge risk to the environment and our health on the Gulf Coast. Just think of all the thousands of new cancers that would overwhelm the health insurance industry to cover if nuclear radiation exposed millions of people.

The biggest reason the nuke option for capping the well is not considered is because it would be a violation of the treaty banning all nuclear explosions. Let's hope Obama sticks to that treaty. The people of the Gulf, and their health, is dependent upon the President's commitment to that treaty.

Senate Parliamentarian Rules Against GOP to Stop Passed Health Care

From Denny: This was to be expected from the Party of No Conscience. Their latest dirty dealing from the army of lobbyist lawyers was to try and find some arcane detail to call the health bill null and void "as Social Security might be affected and Social Security is not allowed to be addressed with reconciliation." Find out the latest GOP efforts to derail the health care bill that was passed by the House Sunday. By the time the public gets through with all this health care media coverage all of us will be well versed in our national law governing the House and Senate. Pass law school and go directly into your law practice. :)

Keith Olbermann rips these guys to shreds, shining a light onto the true perspective and reality of their silly efforts.

Haiti: 2 Weeks Later Incredibly More Survivors Rescued

From Denny: Just when you think you have to give up hope of pulling anyone alive from the rubble of Haiti's earthquake more than 10 days later, someone is found alive. It is always astounding what a human being can tolerate to survive. Usually, rescuers call off rescues because most people cannot survive more than 10 days without water.

In one case of a young man found, it turns out that as the 5 story building he was in collapsed, luck would have it that he fell on the side of a first level grocery store. He was able to scramble and crawl around inside the rubble to retrieve soda, beer and other small found foods. He said there were many others like himself still alive in his same area.

Longest waiting survivor, a 16 year old girl:

A man rescued:

This is the follow-up story on Jeannette the bank worker who was rescued last week. Remember her? She was interviewed while she was still entombed in the concrete as the rescuers began the three hour ordeal of cutting her free from the heavy stones. As they pulled her free, and lay her on a stretcher to take her to the hospital with only minor injuries, she started singing loudly and praising God for her rescue.

It was her husband who doggedly kept digging for her, listening for her voice under the rubble, unwillingly to let her die. This is a rare story for the media to do, they actually took the time to see how she was doing after the rescue and it's all good news:

One Man in Haiti Helping Those Who Fall Between the Cracks of Big Relief Efforts

From Denny: One man watched the news in America and decided he had to do something in Haiti, so he hopped on a plane and has been helping one person at a time as he roams the damaged city.

On Twitter he is known as "onehaitian." I even tweeted him in the hope he may visit Jacmel to tell me if my female American cousin is still alive as she has been reported from other musician friends. Haven't heard from him yet. He's probably slammed with the need in front of his face every minute. Take a look at this great story:

Mission of Hope Run by American in Haiti

From Denny: A few years before the disaster struck in Haiti, American Brad Johnson decided to move there and help the people in his parents' ongoing Christian mission to Haiti. He was in a unique position to help after the earthquake as he already had an established school, an orphanage and a medical clinic operating, along with plenty of supplies. His mission is just outside of Port-au-Prince. He is busy distributing supplies to survivors and has been within hours of when the disaster hit.

Here is the website: Mission of Hope in Haiti

5 Haiti Stories, Good News: Pulled From the Rubble, Alive 11 Days Later

From Denny: Here's a compilation of the best and most recent rescues, pulling people from the rubble. We can only imagine what went through their minds this past week and a half while they hoped against hope for rescue. What's even more amazing is how many come out quite strong both in spirits and body - in spite of severe dehydration. It's also good news for the rescue teams to achieve some measure of success as so many like the Israeli team came from half a world away to help.

Rachel Maddow gives a glimpse into the work of the rescue teams. She also lists the website to donate. First, the Israeli rescue team:

Current State of Haiti 2 Days After Quake

From Denny: Things are still in terrible chaos in Haiti and 3 million people are in distress, lacking for food and water, as well as medical attention. Many injuries are traumatic crush injuries from concrete buildings falling upon them, causing amputations to those who survived the earthquake and were successful at being dug out by strangers who dug with their bare hands to help.

The whole world continues to mobilize, bringing supplies and doctors for their aid. The problem is that it's a small airport and not enough people to help off load the supplies. Planes circle waiting to land. When the U.S. military gets here they will be able to take command of the airport and staff it around the clock like they did during Hurricane Katrina. Without their efforts many more people would have died. Until then, those relief workers that were already in the country are doing the best they can with what little they have to work with for the moment.

Current State of Haiti 1 Day After Quake

From Denny: Of course, the place and the people are in chaos after such a traumatic event as rescue and relief efforts mobilize out of the country to get here in a race against time. The immediate destruction is mind boggling as people wander the streets to assess damage, look for relatives and friends to reconnect and begin to forage for food and water supplies.

American Guns Killing in Mexican Drug Wars

Mexican Police Battle Drug Cartels with Training From America's DEA Agents

From Denny: We still continue to allow unregulated gun shows in America and, because of our lax laws, we definitely owe the folks in Mexico on a moral level of responsibility. The powerful National Rifle Association has continued to succeed avoiding regulation of gun sales at these stupid trade shows.

The drug cartels in Mexico and South America have long figured out we are asleep at the switch. They lawfully come into America and supply themselves happy with a barrage of deadly weapons that end up getting used against Mexican police forces and innocent civilians in drug cartel power fights over who controls the drug trade in their country.

Don't you think it's about time Americans speak up and demand better regulation of guns sold in America? Just how many guns does one person or household really need? Hunters only require so many and so do sports enthusiasts. After that, an arsenal does a crazy paranoid person or anarchist make.

Video: Americans Rush to Donate to Afghanistan Orphanage in News Story

From Denny: This is one of those stories journalists like to tell, something happy and an unexpected good outcome. NBC News ran this story about the children being cared for in the war zone of Kabul, Afghanistan by Andisha Farrid in her safe haven orphanage.

The first video is the most recent. You can watch the progression of the news story through the next videos. It really is wonderful to see so many people respond to a story on the news, opening their hearts, their homes and their wallets to help support these children in need half a world away. Many people have offered to adopt the children.

It just goes to show you the positive side of the media in how it can reach a huge audience in a short amount of time to do the maximum good in the world!

This is the first news story that started the barrage of donations and support for this Afghanistan orphanage:

Cool Video: Prez Obama Honored for Nobel in Sand Sculpture

From Denny: This is an Oddball segment from Keith Olbermann's Countdown show. Since it's October we get to watch folks in Lincoln County, Maine smash huge pumpkins. They put the several hundred pound pumpkins on a crane high in the air and then drop them onto decommissioned old police cars. Sort of gives you some satisfaction for that speeding or parking ticket you felt you never deserved from whatever decade... :)

What's really cool is the incredible sand sculpture a world renowned sand artist in India did on a local beach in Puri, India recently. The artist is Sudarshan Patanaik and his sculpture is four feet high, depicting President Obama's head embedded in a Nobel Peace Prize medal with an accompanying dove and a message pro Peace. This man is quite the artist! So glad a film crew went out there and recorded it; maybe he will do a painting or print photo to sell as posters? Beautifully done as well as a political statement art.

2 Videos: Terrorist Zazi Close to Finishing That Bomb

From Denny: Friday - and this whole week - has been a busy one for news. Terrorism suspect, Najibullah Zazi, is accused of trying to create bombs from beauty supply chemicals, which, unfortunately, is too easy to do. The charges? Conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction.

I've been waiting for this Zazi story to finish developing so we would know more than just the sensational headlines. I'm sure law enforcement needed some time to round up the other fools involved in this terrorism plot before they could begin to inform the public as to more details.

This is reported Friday 26 Sept 2009:

This was reported on Thursday 25 Sept 2009 as the suspect was flown from Denver, Colorado to New York City:

Videos: Exclusive NBC Interview with Irans Leader

From Denny: This sure was an interesting interview and is an exclusive for NBC News from Ann Curry. To her credit, Ann Curry is one of those rare journalists with some class and finesse in how she interviews. She knows how to ask tough questions without being abrasive or practicing ambush journalism.

Of course, Ahmadinejad was his usual "not really answering the questions" self, so what else is new? What's new is his puppet masters have restaged him to reflect the Obama more dignified style of engagement as opposed to the "shoot from the hip" abrasive Bush style. Clearly, the Iranian regime believes they are going to get something they want out of Obama. Think again if you don't disarm with the nukes.

While China and Russia continue to help Iran on the nuclear level they should not be so sure those countries are truly their friends. They could as easily turn on them and do Israel's work for them by destroying the nuke facilities. Iran is playing a dangerous game of which everyone in the world feels threatened.

Right now Iran wants to trade three foolish American hikers in their prison for terrorists and spies in our prisons. I would not expect an equal trade.

Of course, right after this interview, what happens? Ahmadinejad goes off on his usual bizarre course, screaming that the Holocaust never happened. He creates imagined history to fit his fantasy game, all wrong in the face of fact. This guy really knows how to tick off decent people. His gamesmanship is childish at best. The North Korean temper tantrums have worn out the West who are no longer amenable to giving anything anymore. Same goes for the Middle East.

Video: Transforming Inner City Blight

From Denny: I really like these kind of stories where people go into inner cities and turn city blight back into thriving communities by building new AND affordable homes. Listen to their story of those who did well for themselves and then came back to give back to the community! From NBC News' Making a Difference segment.
