A Truth Journal: The How of World Hate: 9 Christians Killed For What in South Carolina?: From Denny:  It really is past due time to get serious about dealing with the issue of World Hate.  Black people think it's "just" about historical racism aimed squarely at them.  Well, that's true - and it's also an ugly part of a much larger and more pervasive problem destroying humanity from within.

THE PRESIDENT:  Hello, everybody.  I just got off the phone with Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Sandy Winnefeld to get the latest report on the situation in Fort Hood.  Obviously we’re following it closely.  The situation is fluid right now.  But my national security team is in close contact with not just the Defense Department but the FBI.  They are working with folks on the ground to determine exactly what happened to make sure that everybody is secure.  And I want to just assure all of us that we're going to get to the bottom of exactly what happened. 

Any shooting is troubling.  Obviously this reopens the pain of what happened at Fort Hood five years ago.  We know these families.  We know their incredible service to our country and the sacrifices that they make.  Obviously our thoughts and prayers were -- are with the entire community.  And we are going to do everything we can to make sure that the community at Fort Hood has what it needs to deal with the current situation, but also any potential aftermath.

We're heartbroken that something like this might have happened again.  And I don't want to comment on the facts until I know exactly what has happened, but for now, I would just hope that everybody across the country is keeping the families and the community at Fort Hood in our thoughts and in our prayers.  The folks there have sacrificed so much on behalf of our freedom.  Many of the people there have been on multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.  They serve with valor; they serve with distinction. And when they’re at their home base they need to feel safe.  We don't yet know what happened tonight, but obviously that sense of safety has been broken once again.  And we're going to have to find out exactly what happened.

The Pentagon will undoubtedly have further briefings for you as we get more details [about what happened.]

From Denny:  The Republican political machine has been frantically busy of late.  The 2016 mud-slinging is in full swing in mid-2013.  Guess these guys just couldn't wait.

They also saw an opening when Team Obama got lazy again after winning their second term.  It just goes to show if you want to stay on top of the mountain then you had better look busy, pushing hard ahead,  chasing after millions of jobs for underemployed and jobless Americans if you don't want to get knocked off the top of that presidential mountain.  That might also explain why President Obama has dropped down to the 65th position in the Most Trusted List this year...

From Denny:  President Obama's recent State of the Union address proved to be a surprise on many levels.  The most unexpected tone was one of greater informality - and most welcome to all - for its plain spoken approach.

Granted this speech was not the usual lofty literary masterpiece of SOTUs past.  It was a beauty in its clean simplicity, where even the most uneducated could understand every word without running to a dictionary...

A Truth Journal: Obama Legacy At Risk? Thuggish Justice Dept Needs Reform?: From Denny:  It's no wonder there now exist 300 million guns owned in America since terrorism struck in 2001.  People are afraid of outside terrorists, desperate to protect themselves and their families.

Americans now feel threatened by and afraid of their own government.  Just check out the latest Pew Research poll where the majority feel the federal government threatens their personal rights.

Do they have good cause since the erosion of individual rights, freedoms, civil rights and privacy taken away under the last two administrations, courtesy of the Justice Department, all because of the War on Terror?

It's the general perception in America that our Justice Department is heavy-handed in its prosecution of cases.  OK, the perception is that it persecutes people, not prosecutes.  Clearly, there needs to be a top-down review from an outside consultant, preferably a team of investigators.

A Truth Journal: Polls: Public Widely Supports Prez Obama On Assault Weapons Ban and More: From Denny:  The NRA and the Republicans might as well give up now while they are still treading water.  The public is growing increasingly restless, anxious for the safety of their children, and downright angry that the NRA and members of Congress are pushing back against common sense and decency.

Thirty days after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, American opinion is rising to higher levels to support serious gun control measures never before considered on a national scale.  Local cities and various states are not waiting for Congress and are passing their own gun control legislation, like New York state.

In the latest Pew Research poll about gun control released yesterday the numbers are high in favor of many gun restrictions, contrary to the NRA public relations campaign attempting to sell to the contrary.

From Denny: The Tucson tragedy is a lot to process. So much violence happened at once. How anyone in the media can say that toxic political discourse for the past 30 years in America had nothing to do with helping to unhinge a mentally unstable young man are foolish to say so. This young man has never known civil political discourse in his life time. Every day conservative radio talk show hosts issue threats "calling for those liberals, those Democrats to die" and "put 'em in the cross hairs, yeah, put a bulls eye target on their faces." At some point these vociferous political profiteers - who are nothing but toxic entertainment - must accept their roles and responsibility here.

The good things that have come out of this tragedy are quite something to behold. Courage was displayed by those under fire. Forgiveness was given to the parents by the wounded. The life of a child was held up to us to raise our sights to do as well with our lives. Politicians held public meetings with their constituents to honor fallen Rep. Giffords still in the hospital, now upgraded from critical condition to serious. The town of Tucson is pulling together to mourn and remember and be one voice of choosing to now argue their politics in a civil manner while disagreeing. A lot of good has come out of all this evil for one reason: Because so very many people chose to rise above this wrong and chose to honor and respect one another.

The President has been criticized by the conservatives for taking advantage of this situation. Nothing could be farther from the truth. I have no qualms about criticizing this White House when they require it but in this situation the critics are wrong. President Obama struck the right tone with his speech and he and the First Lady did right by visiting the wounded in the hospital right before the memorial service. Obama is correct about dealing with toxic political discourse and it's high time the country listen to his plea for America to do better.
